Garden Educator
Part Time Position
About our Program
The Windy Van Hooten Teaching Garden partners with the Gadsden City School System to bring experiential learning to eight elementary schools. Our program blends STEM, literacy, history, and the arts into dynamic, hands-on garden lessons that inspire curiosity and foster lasting connections to nature, wellness, and community.
We are seeking Garden Educators to guide elementary students in garden-based learning. Whether planting seeds, finding earthworms, or tasting sugar snap peas, Garden Educators help students discover the joy of learning outdoors.
Responsibilities:

Lead interactive, age-appropriate garden classes for elementary students

Integrate Math, Science, Reading, History, and Art into engaging outdoor lessons

Support students in planting, harvesting, composting, and caring for the school garden

Maintain a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment

Collaborate with teachers and staff to connect garden lessons to classroom goals

Assist with overall garden maintenance and seasonal planning
Qualifications:
-
Enthusiasm for working with young students and supporting their growth
-
Passion for outdoor education, sustainability, and gardening
-
Experience teaching or leading youth in group settings
-
Strong communication, classroom management, and organizational skills
-
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
-
Comfortable with the physical demands of outdoor work, including lifting, bending, and extended periods of standing or walking.
Schedule and Compensation:

Part-Time roles available

Hours follow school programming needs (weekdays, school calendar)

Option of working additional hours at Hooten Holler events
-
$25 to $30/hr depending on experience
